The less well known waterways of Yorkshire and Lancashire offer stunning views across the North’s historic and scenic landscape.
Being the longest single canal in Britain, it has plenty to take in from the City of Leeds to the peaceful villages on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and the famous Bingley Five Rise flight of Locks.

Inside the former mill, built by Sir Titus Salt, you’ll discover works of art by the renowned artist Favid Hockney. The World Heritage site of Saltaire has its own part of the mill dedicated to its history. Handmade jewelley, paintings, prints and homeware can be bought as a special souvenir of your trip. Visible from the Blakes hire base in Reedley Marina, Pendle Hill is absolutely steeped in history. It was the scene of the Pendle Witch Trials and where the Quaker movement was founded. Its murky past now long forgotten; the hill is a stunning Lancashire landmark and one not to be missed.
With outstanding scenery, natural wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage the Yorkshire Dales National Park is impressive to say the least. The Leeds & Liverpool Canal passes by the southern tip of the Dales via the pretty village of Gargrave and the historic market town of Skipton (recently voted as having Britain’s best high street). Take one of the many walks through the Dales or simply stop at one of the nearby pubs and enjoy some hearty grub.
