Choosing your craft is great fun. Simply do a Quick Search for a boat, study the details, pictures and plans provided on their Boat Detail pages and you should find the perfect boat for your perfect holiday.

A boat may be described as sleeping, for example “4 to 6”. This means that it will sleep six people but two of them will be accommodated on convertible berths, which will serve as seating or table surface during the day. This is the ideal way to reduce costs. However, if you want even more space, comfort and convenience, choose a boat with permanent berths for all members of your party.

Many canal locks are only 7 feet wide, so the width (or beam) of a traditional steel narrowboat is always under 7 feet. Their brightly coloured deckhouses and the rear steering position have changed very little for more than a century. Nowadays, in the space that was once loaded with Stoke pottery or Cambridge grain, there is cleverly planned holiday accommodation, for up to twelve people.

You can holiday narrowboat style on any English or Welsh canal.

Our prices for UK narrowboat holidays include FREE diesel fuel for your boats engine and FREE car parking at most hire bases.

Canal Narrowboat
Tiller steering from the rear deck. Cleverly planned accommodation in a boat just under 7 feet wide. There are various lengths of boat available to accommodate from2 to 12 people.

Cruisers come in all shapes and sizes, with a variety of steering positions – forward, rear and central. You’ll be astonished at the degree of home comforts on board – colour TV, hot shower, flushing toilet and fridge…even the occasional microwave and video.

You’ll find cruisers throughout the Norfolk Broads, the River Thames, Scotland, Ireland and France.

Flybridge Style Cruiser
This version, for 4-6 people, can be steered both from the central saloon and a higher level sundeck above the aft cabin.

Central Wheelhouse Saloon Cruiser
Typical of the larger Broads and river craft, this has an all-weather sliding roof and a second saloon with patio doors to the aft sundeck. Accommodates up to 10 people.

  • How many people are in your party?
  • Are there enough berths?
  • Have you got the right combination of double, twin or single berths?
  • Is there sufficient cabin and gallery space to meet your requirements?

There is nothing to beat the exhilaration of sailing. Blakes have yachts to suit even the most seasoned of sailors, as well as more docile craft for beginners, on the Norfolk Broads and in Ireland.

On the Norfolk Broads we offer sailing tuition free of charge and an hour or so is enough to get you sailing confidently. Alternatively, you can have more formalised instruction up to RYA certificate standard with some of our Norfolk Broads yacht operators. Once you’ve tasted the healthy joys of sail power, you’ll be hooked for life!
